3 New Orleans cops convicted in death of Henry Glover

A federal jury convicted three former and current New Orleans policemen Thursday night in the death of Henry Glover, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Former officer David Warren was convicted on manslaughter charges for shooting Glover, and officer Greg McRae was convicted as an accessory after the fact for burning Glover's body in a car. Lt. Travis McCabe was convicted of trying to cover the whole thing up by writing a false police report and lying to federal investigators about the incident. The jury acquitted Lt. Dwayne Scheuermann and retired Lt. Robert Italiano on cover-up charges.

"There are men and women in that police department who honor the badge every day and every night, and they sweat and they strain, and they work for too little money and they don't see their families enough, and they risk and sometimes give their lives. This is a win for them, too," U.S. Attorney Jim Letten said outside the courthouse after the verdicts were read. "This case is not about departments; it's about individuals who thought they were above the law and weren't."

The convictions are the first in a widespread federal probe into the notorious New Orleans Police Department. The FBI has essentially been embedded inside the department to oversee the misconduct investigation.
