Auburn shootings: Manhunt for suspect continues

The manhunt for the suspect in the Auburn, Ala., shootings continued on Tuesday, after police searched a home in Montgomery for more than six hours but came up empty.

"This has gone on long enough," Auburn Police Chief Tommy Dawson said a news conference. "We're going to apprehend him, sooner or later."

Police surrounded the home in search of Desmonte Leonard, the 22-year-old suspected of killing three people, including two former Auburn University football players, and wounding three others in the shootings at an off-campus party on Saturday.

Dawson said police sprayed "a powerful dose" of tear gas into the home where Leonard was believed to be hiding. The owner of the home called 911 on Monday night after he said he returned home to find the suspect inside.

Officers searched the entire home but—to this point—have not found Leonard.

Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange said police "are going to do another, what they call 'toe-by-toe' search, through the entire attic, looking in HVAC ducts, looking in chimneys—looking in every crevice." (more...)
