George Zimmerman video shows re-enactment of Trayvon Martin shooting

A video released Thursday by George Zimmerman's defense team shows the neighborhood watch volunteer giving police a step-by-step account of what led him to shoot and kill an unarmed teenager in February.

His re-enactment was taped at the scene a day after 17-year-old Trayvon Martin died.

In the video, Zimmerman tells Sanford, Fla., detectives he was trying to escape being beaten by Martin when the teen spotted the handgun strapped to his right hip.

"He looked at it and he said, 'You're going to die tonight (expletive),'" Zimmerman says on the tape.

He said he stopped Martin's attempt to grab the gun before pulling the weapon and firing once.

The incident began when Zimmerman called police to report Martin as a suspicious person in his gated community. On the tape, he tells detectives that he had hung up with the 911 operator and was walking back to his truck when Martin approached from behind and attacked him. Zimmerman is wearing bandages in the video.

Zimmerman, who has been charged with second-degree murder, maintains he acted in self defense under Florida's "stand your ground" law.

The 3:39 clip above was edited by the Associated Press from a 15:04 long video released by Zimmerman's lawyers. Several other audio, video and written statements were also made public.
