Missing man found alive in woods a week after car crash

Against the odds, a missing California man was found alive in a wooded area a week after his car crashed.

Michael Sanchez, 25, of San Jose was found unconscious in thick brush near a Highway 101 ramp, reports KTVU-TV. He is in critical but stable condition.

Police said it was a miracle that Sanchez survived without food and water for a week.

His car was recovered by the California Highway Patrol on May 8 after being involved in a single rollover collision. Witnesses saw an individual get out and walk away from the car.

CHP carefully searched the forested area at the time for about an hour, but they did not find anyone.

Sanchez was reported missing by his family on May 10 when he did not show up for a funeral service, but no one had heard from him since May 8.

After San Jose police received information from the CHP about the car crash, they returned to the area and found Sanchez in a place obscured from the view of cars that passed every day. It is unclear why Sanchez was not found during the initial search.
