It's a bird. It's a plane. No, that was actually the space shuttle Endeavour hitched to a 747.
The space shuttle has taken its last ride on its way to its final resting spot at the California Science Center in Los Angeles. The space shuttle left Edwards Air Force Base this morning for a picturesque flight. It buzzed by Sacramento before heading to the Bay Area, where it will be seen soaring over the Golden Gate Bridge and then will head south.
Endeavour wowed fans with a flyover above Southern California before touching down at Los Angeles International Airport.
Next month it will be taken through the streets of L.A., along a 12-mile route that requires 400 trees to be cut down to make way for the 75-ton shuttle's 78-foot wingspan. The Science Center has agreed to plant 1,000 trees to replace those that are taken down.
