Supreme Court to hear test cases on police questioning of school children

The U.S. Supreme Court will decide next month if police officers can question students at school without parental consent or a warrant, Education Week's Mark Walsh writes. The Court will also decide whether police officers must read Miranda rights to students on the assumption that they may not understand they do not have to answer the officers' questions.

Police presence in schools has increased over the years, so legal observers regard the ruling as a much-needed clarification of whether police need to notify parents before they question their kids. You can read more about the two cases in question here.
