Kennys Vargas wins vaunted Vargas on Vargas matchup with home run

The Kris Bryant call up, Alex Rodriguez's return and the Cole Hamels trade market are three story lines that have scintillated fans early this season. But dedicated fans have had their eye on one major matchup that seems to have gone under the radar.

That's right, we're talking about the vaunted Kennys Vargas on Jason Vargas matchup. The two have met in the past, with Jason coming out on top. In three at-bats, he kept Kennys hitless.

How would Kennys respond during his first at-bat against Jason in 2015? He hit a resounding two-run blast. The shot would tie the game 2-2.

Jason would prevail in the next at-bat, getting Kennys to line out to Lorenzo Cain. Though each side prevailed once, the home run puts the overall matchup in Kennys' favor. He may have lost the first matchup between the two, but he came through in a big way Thursday.

The Minnesota Twins would go on to win the contest, giving the Kansas City Royals their second straight loss.
