Logan Morrison hits longest home run in Marlins Park history

Hunter Pence's season long 476-foot home run is safe according to ESPN's hit tracker, but it was definitely challenged by a member of the Miami Marlins on Friday night. It just wasn't the Marlin you'd expect.

Logan Morrison, not Giancarlo Stanton, muscled up against Washington Nationals right-hander Dan Haren, and the result was an absolutely titanic blast that landed in the second deck of Miami's new Marlins Park. As you can probably guess, that's a spot very few have reached since the ballpark opened last April, and the two-run homer is made even more impressive by the fact that Morrison didn’t pull the ball right down the line.

This ball was six row deeps in right center field, and the true distance according to hit tracker measured at 467 feet. That's good enough to top Juan Francisco's 459 foot blast on April 10 and Giancarlo Stanton's scoreboard-destroying shot last season, making it the longest in the two-year history of Marlins Park. Not to mention the longest of Morrison's career.

The Marlins, though, are sticking with their own estimation which would make Morrison's home the longest in baseball this season.

It's all guess work, but I tend to give the unbiased party the benefit of the doubt.

By the way, Giancarlo Stanton did have an answer for Morrison's home run. In the eighth inning, he dropped one well over the wall in left center field. It wasn't quite 467 feet — more like 403 feet — but I'd say a combined 870 feet is a pretty impressive show of power. It all added up to a great night for the Marlins offense, but it may have actually paled in comparison to rookie Jose Fernandez's performance. In seven shutout innings, he only allowed one hit — an infield single.
