Toledo's game with Stony Brook called at halftime

The game between Toledo and Stony Brook was called at halftime Thursday night with the Rockets leading 16-7.

The game was delayed for over three hours because of lightning delays because of thunderstorms in the area. The second half of the game will not be played as Stony Brook went ahead and kept its travel arrangements to get back to New York.

According to the Toledo Blade, the Rockets can petition the MAC and the NCAA for the game to count as a victory, though any official decision about the game had not been made when it was canceled. Petitioning for the win may not be a bad idea. Can you imagine if Toledo finishes the season 5-6 without it and misses out on going to a bowl game?

The Rockets went down early to Stony Brook but scored 16 unanswered points to take the lead before halftime. The first weather delay was three hours and the game didn't resume until almost 11 p.m. ET. After resuming the game with 14:51 left in the second quarter, the game continued for almost an hour of real time before the teams were sent back to the locker rooms before the start of the third quarter just past 11:45 p.m.

The game was called at 12:13 a.m. according to the Blade.

Idaho's trip to Florida was canceled in 2014 because of thunderstorms in Gainesville and the game was not made up. Both teams ended up playing 11 regular season games and the Gators finished with 12 games after winning the Birmingham Bowl.
