Even the governor needs a beach pass: Badge hawker makes Chris Christie pay up $8 fee

Not even New Jersey's governor can dodge the pesky Jersey Shore badge brigade.

After wrapping up a press conference at the tony Garden State shore town of Manasquan on Thursday, Gov. Chris Christie was headed for some glad-handing on the sand, when he was stopped by a badge hawker.

Trish Heisler queried the governor whether she should charge him, just as the portly pol was stepping foot on the sand. Christie, to his credit, dug out a $20 bill and paid up.

The fee for beach access in the swanky Jersey nabe, a fave of freshman Wall Streeters and Manhattanites, is $8, officials said. There was no word on whether the gov got change.

The governor is promoting tourism along the shore this week. He was in Belmar Wednesday and was headed to Seaside Heights late yesterday. Stops farther south are planned for Friday.
