Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon arrested again, this time for marijuana
Less than a month after Browns wideout Josh Gordon found himself on the wrong side of the law once again, fellow waste of wide receiver potential Justin Blackmon has landed himself in legal trouble, too.
The Oklahoma State product and third-year Jaguar was arrested for possession of marijuana when police in Edmond, Okla. stopped him for a separate traffic violation, according to a NewsOn6.com report.
The arrest is Blackmon's third in five years following a pair of driving under the influence citations in 2010 and 2012. Not to mention the NFL's former No. 5 overall pick is currently serving an indefinite suspension for a third violation of the league's substance abuse policy since arriving in Jacksonville in 2012.
According to the police report obtained by NewsOn6.com, officers smelled marijuana coming from Blackmon's vehicle and discovered an indeterminate amount of cannabis upon searching the car. Regardless of how one feels about the substance remaining banned in the NFL despite its decriminalization in many states around the country, marijuana remains a violation of the league's policy.
After joining Michael Crabtree as the only two players to win two Fred Biletnikoff Awards in college, Blackmon led all rookies with 64 catches and 865 yards while playing all 16 games for the Jaguars in 2012. He hauled in 29 catches for 415 yards in four games last season between a pair of suspensions.
While Blackmon, 24, was eligible to apply for reinstatement prior to the upcoming season, Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said his return was "not something we're counting on" as recently as May. A year ago, Blackmon acknowledged his career was at a crossroads but denied he had a substance abuse problem. Perhaps this latest incident will help him recognize a pattern and one day realize his potential.
In 2012, Blackmon was the first wide receiver taken in April while Gordon was the lone wideout selected in the supplemental draft a few months later.
