Bat flies around Bell Centre, delays Canadiens vs. Senators game (Video)
The rafters at Bell Centre are filled with many things: Championship banners, retired numbers and, apparently, live flying rodents that seek to disrupt NHL games.
A bat flew around at the start of the Montreal Canadiens’ game against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night, making its debut during “O Canada”:
And then briefly delaying the game after Colin Greening scored just 13 seconds in the first period:
And here we thought all the bat in Montreal were now with the Washington Nationals …
After that, the bat was gone, returning to the rafters or materializing as Michel Therrien on the Habs' bench. (C'mon, we all know this guy is a vampire, right?)
From Senators Extra, Sens goalie Craig Anderson fought the urge to engage the bat:
For Craig Anderson, a bat that buzzed him during his pre-game warmup at the Bell Centre was as pesky as the Montreal Canadiens. Anderson was amused and joked that he was “going to try to catch it.”
But he was only joking. He didn’t want it hanging around. “Not scared, just a little anxious,” he said. “I saw it, I just didn’t know how far it was going to come. “It was one of those things, where it sees a perch on my shoulder – and it’s not exactly a friend I want perching on my shoulder.”
Too bad … if Anderson had killed the bat and the Senators won the game (which they did in overtime), we could have been looking at the next “rubber rats” in the NHL. Just ask the Green Bay Gamblers about that.
