Swedish hockey fans put your postgame celebrations to shame (Video)
It’s the routine reaction to a regular-season win by the home team: Buzzer sounds, loud cheers, perhaps a stick-salute to the fans at center ice, third star, second star, first star, grab coat/memorabilia/child, head to the exits, join the traffic. Rinse and repeat for the next game at the arena.
Well, they do it differently in Sweden. Depending on who shows up to cheer.
It helps when there’s a ridiculous supporter group like the Järnkaminerna, who are known to back the local footie team with raucous cheers and chants. They also pack the stands for Djurgården, who plays in the second-tier Swedish league HockeyAllsvenskan.
On Monday, Djurgården defeated Timrå, 4-0, in a random regular-season game. The fans cheered and chanted at the end of the third period … and as the team left the ice … and while the team was in the back … and then when the team returned to the ice for an encore … and then when the team skated down the ice in unison and did somersaults to the delight of those insane supporters.
So, uh, did they ever leave the arena? Do they just turn off the lights and allow them to keep chanting until the next home game?
What a cool atmosphere. When’s the last time you saw a hockey team emerge from the back to a curtain call like they’re Pearl Jam on their third encore? With tumbling, no less …
