Bob Ross and the Original 'Shake It Off'

Bob Ross and the Original 'Shake It Off'

Taylor Swift's song "Shake It Off" has taken the world by storm.

But let it be known: She was not the original shaker-offer. That title belongs to the beloved creator and host of PBS's The Joy of Painting, Bob Ross.

Ross was shaking off … his brushes long before Swift was even born.

In a supercut of episodes, uploaded by YouTuber paavi2005, we can see the mellow painter letting out his stress on his painting easel.

Episodes of the show originally aired from 1983 to 1994. After Ross finished painting his "happy little trees" and "fluffy clouds," he'd then begin what he said was his favorite part of painting: cleaning the brushes.

He would dip the brush in odorless paint thinner, shake it out, strike it against the thinner can, and then thwack it rapidly against the easel.

With a smile and often a laugh aloud, he would "beat the devil out of it."

At the end of each episode, Ross was best known for saying, "So from all of us here, I'd like to wish you happy painting, and God bless, my friend."
