County in Michigan Celebrates Mud Day With Giant, Recreational Mud Pit

Odd News

What's better than a full-body mud mask on a hot summer day?

During Mud Day in Wayne County, Michigan, children play in and race through a giant mud pit that is 70 x 150 feet and 1.5 feet deep. The winners are crowned Mud King and Mud Queen.

The early July tradition, which was brainstormed by the parks department, started 26 years ago outside Detroit.

Playing around in the dirt is gaining traction elsewhere. Two mud boggers in Kansas decided to tie the knot in the mud during the Toronto Days Mud Run. Jared Baylor drove through the mud in a truck to his bride Taylor Ratcliff. That's what you call through thick and thin. Just don't plan on keeping your wedding dress white!
