Cricket Commentator Calls Play That Ends in Damage to His Car

Everyone in the world of sports commentary knows that it's all fun and games until you become part of the play. Former cricket player turned commentator Ian Smith found this out the hard way during a lively cricket match in New Zealand. Smith gave the play-by-play as batsman Jesse Ryder from the Wellington Firebirds hit a ball out of the park. The ball soars into the parking lot and lands on the roof of a car, leaving a dent. Smith announces, "That's downtown. ... It hit my car. ... Don't believe it! Oh, the downside of getting a park so close. Oh, no!" When a fellow commentator asked if he paid for insurance, Smith replied, "No, it's a rental."

Apparently, this is not the first time Smith had an incident with cricket-related damage to a rental car, but he said, "Usually it's a scrape on the door."

In the end, Smith questioned whether it was actually his rental car. There was a moment of hope that perhaps it was someone else's ride: "I don't think I was that far down. For some reason, I was more behind the hot dog stand. ... I think I might be OK."

We bet Smith learned a valuable lesson that parking spots closest to a sporting event might not always be the best place to leave your car.
