Driver crashes SUV, is flung 50 feet off of overpass, and survives

A driver in Revere, Massachusetts must be grateful to have survived what, on first glance, looks like it would have been a tragic accident. WCVB Channel 5 Boston News is reporting on James Fay, who despite wrecking his SUV and then being flung 50 feet down from an overpass is alive and doing well.

Police say that Mr. Fay, who was driving home for lunch, was thrown out of the sunroof of his Lexus SUV when it started to roll over after crashing. He flew almost 50 feet from the overpass, landing into snow below.

A Revere EMT, Lieutenant William Brown told WCVB, “He was conscious, alert, he was talking. And the Sate Police on scene told us he had been walking around prior to that.” Yep, that’s right, Fay was upright despite what had happened.

Lt. Brown said Fay’s biggest concern was getting back to work, but the EMT wasn’t having it. The driver was sent to Massachusetts General Hospital and was treated for broken ribs, wrists, a hip, as well as some “internal injuries.” The Boston station doesn’t know if Fay, who is not facing any life-threatening injuries, was wearing his seatbelt at the time. It seems nobody else on the scene was injured.
