Latest Pointless Invention: Ice Tires

British inventor Colin Furze, who has gained a reputation for his wacky inventions, is known for tricking out the simplest modes of transportation. He once souped up a mobility scooter so that it would go up to 50 miles an hour. He has added rockets to a bicycle and even an engine to a baby stroller.

For his latest project, which was sponsored by clothing company Uniqlo to show off its new thermal wear, Furze built ice tires for a bicycle.

To make each wheel, he used mesh and froze water mixed with ice cubes around a tire frame for about 24 hours. The bike frame he used is a regular BMX bike.

He rode his ice bike around, up and down hills, and on an ice rink. To take the ice bike back to its native environment, Furze even rode it over a glacier, which did not work out very well.

There is no point to the ice tires besides being just a fun experiment. But you never know; it might be nice to have tires that could double as a unique-looking beverage cooler!
