According to Price's wife Janie, who updated his condition on his Facebook page, Price was diagnosed with sepsis, a serious and potentially fatal condition. "We rushed him to the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and treatment was started," she explained. "Ray's blood pressure dropped too low and his heart rate too high. We were in watchful crisis all night long and throughout early morning hours before he stabilized."
Janie Price assured fans that her husband is in good medical hands and that she will remain at the hospital to support him. "I am at Ray's bedside and have not left him for a second," she noted. "I will continue to be ever watchful and give updates as Ray continues to improve. Please remember Ray in your prayers tonight."
Price has been battling various health concerns for some time (including a cancer diagnosis last year), but managed to remained in good spirits throughout, updating Facebook with cheerful accounts of his pets, a potential new album, and even lighthearted commentary about the kidney stones he had removed in June ("Doctors told me that the pain was just about as bad as having a baby. Thank God for all of you Mothers").
The legendary entertainer, who started out in the late '40s, has a roster of hits; some of the better-known ones are "Release Me," "Crazy Arms," and "For the Good Times." In January, he was embroiled in a well-publicized feud with "The Voice" coach Blake Shelton over Shelton's perceived disrespect for classic country music.
