    Obama’s Mix Tape for America

    Political Punch
Recently the President's re-election campaign released a list of songs — a soundtrack, really — to be played during campaign events or just offered up to his supporters to download.

A theme song for a political campaign is not at all a new concept  -- remember FDR 's 'Happy Days are Here Again,' for instance, or the Frank Sinatra rewritten version of "High Hopes" for John F. Kennedy's campaign.

But as we've seen recently, campaigns sometimes run into trouble when they incorporate music without the OK from the musician on the other side of the political aisle.  Tom Petty wanted Michelle Bachmann to quit it with 'American Girl' last year.  But if the campaign is in your political corner, as Bruce Springsteen was for Barack Obama and John Kerry's campaigns, there is less friction.

But the Obama campaign is taking all of this one step further with a 29-song playlist that Washington Post music critic Chris Richards said is more like a constituents' mix tape.

"He's really trying to woo voters here with a selection of songs just like we've done for the person we had a crush on in high school," Richards said.

So, what does the song selection reveal about our Al Green-crooning President? Richards says  the collection is all over the place, with musical genres bumping up against each other. Classic soul tunes with modern country acts.

And what's missing? No hip hop.

I cant think of anything more unAmerican than a political system where only the wealthy can run for president.

Has it just recently been un-American or was it still un-American for the last 230 years where it was always that way?

maybe drug using presidents? and ones that abuse women,,and alcohol.....and get us into bogus wars by lying to us....or dropping a bombs on people or coming up with foolish programs to prolong the depression and make us dependent on govt...I am getting almost back to woodrow wilson...dont get me started on that clown...at least he was a proud member of the KKK...with senator Byrd...last but not least t roosevelt tellin the japs to trade with us or he will start up the naval gunfire...how to win friends 101

Who cares about the music he is choosing. That will not win him the votes.

How’s this for apocalyptic literature? This was written by a pastor’s wife in biblical prose as a commentary of current events. It is brilliant.
And it came to pass in the Age of Insanity that the people of the land called America, having lost their morals, their initiative, and their will to defend their liberties, chose as their Supreme Leader that a person known as “The One.”

I can't understand why a mix tape is so much more important than the fate of the economy and the rise of oil and gas up to over $4 a gallon. Why in the hell is a mix tape making the news compared to destroying the middle class and the economic climate? Seriously, that is like saying President Obama didn't tie his shoes today and that would make news. You have over a hundred million people unemployed in this country today. Maybe, even more by the days coming ahead. I just wonder is the fate of our country even important in this world today? It seems to me that none of the politicians speak the truth and our country is going to have the same challenging problems year in year out.

The only ones destroying the economy through higher gas prices are the speculators.. and nothing can be done about them as long as there are more Republicans than Democrats on the Reg board..
      • Shmagu 3 mths ago
because the ones voting for him are as stupid as his playlist!

Investment firms that can influence the oil futures market stand to make a lot; oil companies that both produce the commodity and drive prices up of their product up through oil futures derivatives stand to make even more. Investigations into the unregulated oil futures exchanges turned up major financial institutions like Goldman Sachs and Citigroup. But it also revealed energy producers like Vitol, a Swiss company that owned 11 percent of the oil futures contracts on the New York Mercantile Exchange alone.

As a result of speculation among these and other major players, an estimated 60 percent of the price of oil per barrel was added; a $100 barrel of oil, in reality, should cost $40. And despite having an agency created to prevent just such speculative price inflation, by the time oil prices skyrocketed, the government had made a paper tiger out of it.

im confused..it seems like there is a huge amount of people who do not want obama back next year....i mean any time there is a story online, the post are predominantly against him....which leads me to believe that he is a goner...but according to every poll you see he is up in approval ratings and he has every chance of beating any and everyone who goes against him...so we all have to make sure that when November rolls around that we dont just talk about it, we act on it....because this will be a close race, and we need to make sure that he does not come back

Next they'll end up selling the mix tape for $50.00 because it's "presidential". This seems like a waste of good reporting and political time spent on deciding what how to persuade people based on impulse emotions from motivational music.
