Three injured after railing collapses at high school title game

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. —The first high school football game ever played at San Francisco's AT&T Park ended with the frightening collapse of a railing that sent celebrating St. Ignatius fans tumbling down on its players, authorities said.

Fortunately, a San Francisco fire department spokesman said, only minor injuries resulted from the collapse and no one had to be transported to local hospitals for treatment.

A crowd of nearly 12,000 fans had gathered at the home of the San Francisco Giants for a CCS playoff matchup between long-time San Francisco parochial school rivals St. Ignatius and Sacred Heart. Some 5,000 of the St. Ignatius faithful were seated in temporary bleachers.

Moments after the Wildcats hard-fought 21-14 victory to claim the Division III title, the team rushed to the bleachers to celebrate with their fans. Moments later, the railing gave way and several fans tumbled into the players.
