Blumhouse of Horrors: Inside the making of a Hollywood haunted house (VIDEO)

Jason Blum has made a name for himself in Hollywood, helping to craft some of modern cinema's scariest films, including the "Paranormal Activity" series, "Insidious" and the upcoming "Sinister." But this year, Blum decided to add a new entry to his frightening dossier: an interactive haunted house experience.

The Blumhouse of Horrors is a unique and terrifying twist on the haunted house experience, taking a small group of visitors through a renovated Variety Arts Theater in downtown Los Angeles. For the experience, the theater has been converted into a 1920s vaudeville theater and tells the story of Magii, a dark magician with a secret past.

Blum agreed to let Yahoo News tour Blumhouse as it was in the middle of production and talked to us about what goes into the making of a Hollywood haunted house. This is the first of what will hopefully become a regular feature on The Sideshow, in which we bring you unique and compelling stories through the medium of visual storytelling.

We hope you enjoy this behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Blumhouse of Horrors. And if you're in downtown Los Angeles, be sure to check out Blumhouse—if you dare—it runs through Nov. 3 and has already opened to rave reviews.
