Celebrate National Waffle Day with waffle-flavored vodka

Would you celebrate National Waffle Day with this flavored concoction? (Georgi Vodka)September 24 is National Waffle Day, a day to mark the breakfast delight enjoyed by millions of people around the world everyday. To help celebrate the occasion, Georgi vodka has a line of waffle-flavored vodkas.

The new flavors are being debuted at two locations on Friday: The Holiday Inn Express in Stony Brook, New York, and Kennedy's Restaurant in New York City. Along with the new spirits, the Holiday Inn Express will be serving complimentary vodka-flavored waffles to all guests and patrons at least 21 years old.

"We try to think of flavors that other vodkas don't have," Martin Silver, President of Star Industries, maker of Georgi vodka, told Yahoo News. "I took my sales team out for breakfast to think of new flavor ideas. I asked them what they wanted to eat and they said pancakes and waffles. And we pretty much decided right then to give the waffle flavors a try."

Georgi has a number of waffles flavors, including banana waffle and chocolate chip. The flavors join a collection of other unusual flavors under their brand, including bubble gum, coconut, candy cane, popcorn, mango and French vanilla.

"The federal government is very specific with what you put on your labels," Silver told Yahoo! regarding the French vanilla. "Even Grey Goose only has 'la vanille,'" he said,  pointing out that it could not be called French vanilla. "We use a special bean that the government says you must use if you want to call it French vanilla."

Waffles have existed for thousands of years, dating back to ancient Greece. And they came to America along with some of the earliest European settlers in the 1600s. Thomas Jefferson himself is credited with introducing the first waffle iron to Americans.

And over at Kennedy's, you will be able to enjoy your vodka-infused waffle with a special "waffle-tini" created by Georgi, a martini that features a mini waffle garnish on the rim of the glass.

"More and more chefs are cooking with spirits; they like to get creative," Silver said.

So which of the waffle-flavored vodkas is the biggest high with Silver's own company?

"Everybody likes the chocolate chip," he said.
