Maymo the dog has a knack for getting into the public’s eye. Last October, her owner’s “Ultimate Dog Shaming” video was watched more than 2 million times on YouTube.
But it turns out Maymo has another strange interest that goes beyond rolling in pickles, hoarding bottles of spring water and stealing treats from goats: she’s also a little obsessed with laundry sheets.
In the video, Maymo rolls around in dryer sheets and can even be seen at the end of the video wearing a stack of them on top of her head.
Other dog owners have discussed their pet’s strange attraction to laundry sheets, with the general consensus being that they are likely either attracted to the smell of human clothes that have carried over to the sheets. Or, in the case of new sheets, simply like the fragrances and are trying to transfer them to their own fur.
However, other sources like the Merck Veterinary Manual warn that exposure to the chemicals found in common laundry detergents and dryer sheets can be harmful to your animal’s gastrointestinal tracts. In other words, enjoy Maymo’s antics but don’t try this at home with your own dog or cat.
