    Video: America’s longest married couple

In this video, we meet Wilbur and Teresa Faiss, America's longest-married couple. The Las Vegas residents were first wed in April, 1933. Wilbur, now 100-years-old, tells KVVU TV, "I just had no idea of us ever winning the longest-married couple."

A group called the Worldwide Marriage Encounter certified the marriage as the nation's longest ongoing union. On a recent trip to Nevada, President Obama was even scheduled to deliver brief remarks acknowledging the couple.

"How often does an ordinary guy get recognition by the president of the United States? It's one of these things that's once-in-a-lifetime," Faiss said. Unfortunately, the couple were late to the event and Obama had to remove the remarks from his speech. However, the White House has told Wilbur and Teresa that the president will be returning to Nevada in the next few months and will make the remarks to the couple then.

As for the secret to their wedded bliss as they approach their 80th anniversary, Wilbur says, "It's very simple. It's give and take and compromise."

dont think hollywood would do a reality show for this couple, where the heck would they find enough film rolls for that long, and what about dropping ratings? I.E. even soaps die out after 3 or 4 or 5 decades, LOL

maybe this couple could mentor some of those fly by night "now Married / Now divorced couples" certain kardashian name comes to mind, LOL (would both couples be mentioned on thet same page on guiness world book of records, one as the longest married and the other as the shortes)t?

True that not everybody is suited to get married, too bad we tend to find out after we already have children... Some of use then decide to hang on for the long term, I know I want to enjoy eventual (xP) grandchildren with my hubby, so hanging on and starting each day over and over, same with fighting my eating addiction :P

Seventy-eight years is a long time, and I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. However, according to JCPenney in their latest catalogue, Marshall and Winnie Kuykendall were married in Lordsburg, New Mexico on February 14, 1929. Penney's did a two page spread with a story, a timeline and two photos. So their 83 years on Valentine's Day, 2012 beats 78 years everytime, right? Could the award been given to the wrong couple? How could anyone miss this? Did anybody else see this? Can someone else verify this so I know I'm not looking at make-believe? Still, congratulations to Wilbur and Teresa Faiss for a long life of love!

My in-laws are having their 67th anniversay this month. Much as I love them, I wouldn't want their marriage! It's very patriarchal: Grandpa rules the roost and what he says, goes - no matter what. I'm sure that if my mother-in-law were a more modern woman, she would have cut and run a long time ago. She has never had any freedom or a life of her own. Instead, she has had to wait on him hand and foot and cater to his every whim. I really don't know how they managed to have a son who grew up to be a man who actually likes being an equal partner (although he does have his moments).
