Accuser’s press conference cuts Herman Cain’s odds in half

Sharon Bialek, the fourth woman to allege that Herman Cain sexually harassed her--and the first to do so live on television--spoke to the news media on Monday. Bialek's press conference appears to have cut Herman Cain's chances of winning the Republican presidential nomination almost in half.

Just before it was announced that a woman and her attorney, Gloria Allred, would be holding a press conference Monday, the prediction markets gave Cain a 6.8 percent chance of becoming the Republican Party's presidential nominee. By the time the press conference ended, Cain's chances in the prediction markets had dropped to 3.8 percent.

I do not know how long it will take for public opinion polls to reflect Cain's weakened position in the presidential race, but the prediction markets have spoken: There is more than a 96 percent likelihood that Cain will fall in the public-opinion polls before Republicans cast their real votes in the 2012 primaries and caucuses.

Cain's likelihood of winning the Republican nomination was 8.5 percent just before the harassment allegations were first reported by Politico last week. When the allegations surfaced, Cain suffered a small drop in the prediction markets, but he leveled off quickly. Major news outlet reported that Cain was holding steady in the polls. The campaign itself bragged about its fundraising in the wake of the allegations.

Stay current by checking out the real-time likelihoods of each candidate winning the Republican presidential nomination.

Two cases were settled to get rid of them, they didn't want court intervention.

I agree, if you really are innocent, FIGHT! And he didn't, which says a lot to me.

that's just the problem...if he sues, his evidence will have to come out... But it's now just his word against hers. But she does have some witnesses that will back up her story....

Ok, let's step back a minute. I have no idea who did what, but the press originally reported on the settlements paid by Mr. Cain's employer - those are facts. Nobody made those up to achieve some agenda. Reporters dig up dirt - that's what they do (good or bad). He HAD to expect that these "facts" would come out when he ran for president. And now that they are out, he can't expect people to stop talking about them just because he has denied the incidents in the original suits. Being president is a lot harder than answering questions about something you never did - if you lose your temper over this, I am afraid you don't have the temperament for the job you are seeking...
      • Busted 6 mths ago
As a republican you lost me when you started using facts.

And reporters are greatly helped when someone inside tips them off... Republican on Republican violence is reaching pandemic proportions...
      • Mom 6 mths ago
They weren't settlements. They were severence packages. Yes, that could be a handy way to cloud an issue...or they could just be severence packages.

As I posted on several articles, she is not alleging sexual harassment. She is alleging sexual battery (look it up). Apparently, the black guy is guilty if it is a blonde white female? Karl Rove, you suck. Gloria Allred, are you f...ing kidding me? Credibility?
      • Beethoven 6 mths ago
If anything she probably got peeved because Mr Cain ignored her. Why want someone ask gutter attorney Allred why the blond sociapath did not file a complaint with the EEOC. None of them filed with the EEOC. They should crawl back into the hole from which they came.

Here here, Beethoven! Here here! Outstanding comments!

Beethoven, the EEOC did not have jurisdiction because you have to employed by the company that employs the harasser for the EEOC to have jurisdiction. Anymore easy questions.

Cain needs to show that these women have some reason to lie. Refusing to talk about it isn't going to make it go away, at least not quickly.

You cant line the accusers up...the first few of them were paid, via court settlement, to shut up...get hotel records and security video and we will see who the liar is.
    • Allen  •  Richardson, United States  •  6 mths ago
Still in todays world unproven accusations are enough to destroy anyones character. Most likely this will be enough to hurt his chances.

Honestly, crap like this is ridiculous. The entire political process is ridiculous. For what seems like forever, it's always been about why you SHOULDN'T vote for one guy instead of why you SHOULD vote for another. It's been about doing more to smear your opponent rather than tell the American people about how you will help the country. It's a damned disgrace.
    • A Real American  •  6 mths ago
Ha ha ha. I tell you what folks. There is no way in hell I could ever survive a campaign with all the crap my opposition would find on me. I mean, I don't steal. I don't lie. I never cheated on a girlfriend or my wife. I hardly drink anymore. I got one moving violation in the last 30 years. I pay my taxes. I never went bankrupt. Yet they'd find something on me - guaranteed!

Herman's issue isn't with "the liberal media" or even with the women. It's with not knowing China has nukes, thinking Africa is a country instead of a continent, anf a foreign policy that is about as substantial as cigarette smoke, not to mention his cocktail napkin tax plan. Wake up GOP, you're delerious again Cain = EPIC FAIL

women-politics...always a long list of cheaters. anyone with power will wonder. human nature, etc. not saying any of this is right...i am not. BUT what is wrong with these women that have a need to step into the spotlight and have their lives ruined??? if all this happens than why didn't they do something long long ago??? i can see a staff member paying someone off just to make the nut go away..(if you understand my point) alot of women say things happen when they did not. just saying.....lots of ringers out there to destroy a life as well.
