    Court officially rules that the Galaxy Tab tablet just isn’t as “cool” as the iPad

    Without question, Apple's iPad has a definite cool factor about it. But is it really cooler than all other tablets out there? According to a court in England, yes — or, at least, it's cooler than the Samsung Galaxy Tab.

    In what was actually a court victory for Samsung, Judge Colin Birss ruled that Galaxy Tabs "are not as cool" as iPads. Samsung had been requesting the court rule that the Galaxy Tab was different enough from the iPad to avoid infringing on Apple's rights.

    Whether or not the Galaxy Tab is "as cool" as the iPad is actually an important legal issue. By sharing more of the intangibles that make Apple the tablet market leader — things like the iPad's "understated and extreme simplicity," as cited by Birss — the court could have found that consumers would have been confused into thinking the Galaxy Tab was actually an Apple iPad, an infringement on Apple's intellectual property ownership. After all, if it's not cool, it's not a copy.
