Today in TechGoogle Plus opens photography contest for students
Whether you're new to photography or a practiced old hand at looking at the world through a lens, if you're a student over age 18, Google is looking for your photographs. The search engine's social platform, Google+, just announced the first ever Google Photography Prize about at Saatchi Gallery, London. In its first 100 days in existence, users uploaded more than 3.4 billion photos to Google+. The Prize aims to showcase the social media platform as a venue for sharing and exploring photography.
The contest is open to amateur photographers who are university or other higher education students age 18 or older, living anywhere in the world. Entrants can upload up to eight photographs in any of ten categories such as food, travel, action, and street photography. Curators appointed by the Saatchi Gallery will evaluate all submissions and will choose 100 best submissions for a shortlist, and ten finalists will be chosen from that list by a jury of photography professionals. The finalists will have their work showcased at the Saatchi Gallery in London, and will win a trip to London with a friend to attend the opening event. The overall winner will also receive a trip to an undisclosed "amazing destination" with a professional photography coach.
The deadline is January 31, 2012, so get out there and start shooting!
