Playlists are a great way to organize your favorite music so that you're only listening to the tracks you want to. With a smart playlist, you'll let iTunes decide what songs are on the playlist based your preferences. For instance, you can have all the songs you haven't listened to in over a year on a playlist, or all the songs that are performed by The Beatles.
