Picky robot prefers Tecate over Bud Light

We've seen robots do some amazing things — from performing delicate surgical operations to competing in real-life sporting events — but Trossen Robotics' Darwin bot is different. Content in letting other bots do the hard work, Darwin's only goal in life — when he's not busting a move — is to procure an ice-cold beer. And not just any beer will do; as you can see by the video above, the wise robot won't even glance at a Bud Light, yet relentlessly pursues the Mexican-made Tecate.

In reality, the talented programmers of Trossen Robotics likely programmed the bot to recognize and run towards red objects and ignore blue, but Darwin's steadfast determination in getting ahold of a Tecate is charming nonetheless. You can get your hands on your very own Darwin bot, if you have deep enough pockets, as the company is selling the adorable humanoids for a cool $12,000.

Science fiction has suggested that one day robots might be powered by alcoholic beverages alone, and that refusing them their precious fuel could result in mechanical failure. Darwin might be the first step towards such a future, though we hate to think of the confusion that might result when the beer-loving bot goes after a can of beer that is actually a robot in disguise.
