Pinterest launches official app for Android devices and iPad-specific app

Android users, you no longer have to bitterly steal glances at the iPhone-toting stranger sitting next to you on the bus — now, you too can feed your Pinter-addiction during long commutes thanks to Pinterest's brand new app for Android phones and tablets. The fledgling social network also released an iPad-specific app that's possibly the best among all its apps and even gave its old iPhone app a visual overhaul.

Pinterest's apps (download Pinterest for Android) for Android tablets and the iPad (download Pinterest for iPad) look very similar to the site's web interface due to the devices' considerably large screen sizes. The iPad app exclusively features special gesture controls that let you quickly resume browsing after viewing a board, or use its embedded browser to see what your friends are pinning from other websites. The revamped iPhone app (download Pinterest for iPhone), on the other hand, now shows you pins in two columns, which is a welcome change from the old one-column layout. You'll also see the same interface if you're on an Android phone.

In a blog post on the Pinterest website, the company writes: "When we think about what we're designing at Pinterest, we think about giving everyone a place to dream, plan, and prepare for the things in their lives. The Pinterest apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android are about enabling you to do just that, not seated in front of a computer or at the office, but wherever go as you live your life." Pinterest enjoyed tremendous growth in the past few months, and we bet many of you reading this are already in need of a 12-step program to quit the site. But just in case you're new to the idea of pinning, check out our primer on how to get started with Pinterest.
