Rolling house gives new meaning to the term mobile home

Space-saving home concepts are nothing new, and we've seen everything from eco-friendly cubes to a home that fits on just a sliver of real estate, but the "Roll It" concept is still very intriguing. Built by students from Germany's Univeristy of Karlsruhe, the unique abode can serve multiple purposes depending on its orientation, potentially doubling or tripling its usable space.

The cylindrical design allows the house to be rolled along the ground simply by walking up one of its "walls." Each section of the dwelling can be used in multiple ways. For example, when the home is in one specific orientation, there is a table and work area, but when rotated, this same space now houses the sleeping quarters. There is even a fully-functional kitchen area with a stove, as well as a bathroom with a hinged toilet to prevent any nasty spills while rolling about.

There aren't any plans to put the unique home into production, but we wonder if some day having a house that rolls will serve a legitimate purpose. Like, say, when the zombie apocalypse makes any form of transportation a bit more important.
