Rugged iPhone case designed for extreme sports needs a kickstart

Are you a self-confessed klutz or an adrenaline junkie? You probably choose not to carry your phone all the time — at least not without protection like the one Snow Lizard Products believes it can offer. The company claims its upcoming rugged iPhone case, Aqua Tek S, can keep your device safe no matter what you do to it. You can even scuba dive, snowboard, or do other extreme sports with your phone in your pocket without having to worry about anything.

Based on the video of the case above, you can see that it can make your iPhone 4 or 4S look a bit chunky. But if you're willing to trade a bit of sleekness for protection, the tough polycarbonate material can withstand drops, and can keep your phone waterproof for up to 20' underwater, according to the manufacturer. The case even has an attached solar panel that you can use to harness energy for your device in case you find yourself stuck on a deserted island or in the middle of a traffic jam without a charger.

Snow Lizard is currently looking to raise a hefty $75,000 on Kickstarter in less than a month so Aqua Tek S can be released to the public. The first three colors available to project backers are orange, black, and grayish camouflage. If ever the company meets its goal, a total of nine designs will be sold for $130 each, including a pink and reggae camouflage as well as a leopard print pattern.

why an ad with such a poor skier? dosen't inspire confidence in the product imo.
      • blarkk 3 mths ago
Because the ad is about protecting your phone. If the skier stayed on his skis the whole time you wouldn't be showing the need for a special case because the phone would never be in danger.

.....and who would really wear a phone around their neck.......but such a bad skier! Poser.

1st of all most overplayed song ever! 2nd costs almost as much as the phone.....$130 per case? whats the warranty on the case if your phone does get broken? Also have we become so pathetic that we cannot live and enjoy skiing, scuba diving, mountain biking without having a cell phone on us with internet connection at all times?

derrr... ever heard of communication.. if something were to happen like.. a tree coming out from no where and breaking you in half... you would uhm... call someone..

I mountain bike with my iphone all the time. Sometimes to monitor my trail pace or map where I've been on a new trail and other times simply as a means to get help if I were to be 'broken in half' like Ben says, lol.

what is an iphone good for on a deserted island. Wouldn't there be no service? And dont they make car chargers?

If you don't buy an iPhone you won't need one of these. BOYCOTT APPLE. Move those jobs to the USA. I don't care what it would cost.

You state this as if the cell phone you own was manufactured somewhere other than China too

Or, for half the price, you can go get one now that doesnt look like you covered it in SPRAYFOAM and shaped it yourself... LIFEPROOF

i have gone snowboarding, ya know what i did with my phone? i put it in my pocket! i already have a protective case so if i fall on it it wont break, the only weather proofing you need is a good pocket

Not quite that simple, depending on how and where you ski. Given the high tech breathable materials we have today, a pocket isn't a guarantee to keep your phone dry. Materials today wick moisture away from your body and your pocket/phone can get damp from the inside out. Mine always used to. Now, if you aren't skiing hard and working up a sweat no problem. Easy breezy on the greens and blues and a pocket will be fine. But ski hard in the blacks, spend time in the woods and powder, and snow and moisture (sweat) get everywhere, no matter what you do. My current jacket has a pocket designed specifically for a phone/ipod, that also protects from moisture from inside my jacket. Not all pockets will do that.

I'm pretty sure they already have a iPhone case that is everything proof...As I recall it's called LifeProof and the website also has videos of guys swimming, sledding, throwing the phone, and other various acts to prove the case makes the phone very damage resistant to everything.

Thanks for the article. I use my phone to track my pace/elevation, and I'm running several Tough Mudders, and something like this might be just what I'm looking for.

What you should be looking for is a new phone. NOT AN APPLE PRODUCT.

Sorry if you don't like Apple. I find it to be convenient and it suits my lifestyle. You like hotdogs...I like burgers...get over it.

I never buy cases.. $30 for a plastic molded thing for my phone? I can buy a plastic molded 50 gallon container at walmart for $5.. it's a rip off..
I had my 3g for 3.5 years and never used a case. Yeah.. it was dropped many times.. but still worked. They are meant to be thrown away after 2 years anyways.. it's called "planned obsolescence". Just take care of ur shyt and you dont have to shell out extra money for something u won't use but for 2 years anyways..
