Today in TechScience fiction becomes fact as filmmaker with bionic eye explores the technology of Deus Ex
Adam Jensen is the cybernetic protagonist of the futuristic action game Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Rob Spence is a Canadian filmmaker who often wears a patch over his right eye. At first glance, the two don't seem to have much in common, that is, until Spence reveals what he is hiding beneath the small piece of fabric on his face — a cybernetic eye. As a pioneer in the world of futuristic prosthetics, Spence teamed up with Deus Ex publisher Square Enix to take an in depth look at modern day cyborgs, and attempt to plot out the future of the exciting technology.
After a firearm accident left Spence without one of his eyes, he took the bold step of having it replaced with something a little more robotic. Now, housed within his eye socket is a small camera that allows him to stream and record his daily life wirelessly. In the short documentary, Spence showcases some of the cool features of the camera, including being able to stream his own vision to a handheld display.
The video also explores advancements in prosthetic limbs, and showcases the extremely fast-moving science of human augmentation. The fictional Adam Jensen lives in the year 2027, and while his flawlessly integrated mechanical components may seem unattainable, the experts appear rather optimistic that reality will soon catch up with science fiction. If there assumptions are correct, we may be in store for a future where normal just isn't good enough.
