Smartphone with a Facebook button makes your wall one click away

Are you a Facebook addict? Do you need to have the sprawling social network and its likes, pokes, and walls at hand every minute of the day? A new smartphone is counting on it. Meet the HTC Status, an aptly-named little phone that will make it easier than ever to update your Facebook status — that is, if you'd like as few clicks as possible separating you from your social networking habit.

The HTC Status — available to AT&T subscribers on June 17 and on pre-sale today — boasts a dedicated button fashioned after the Facebook logo. The little blue button rests below the phone's physical keyboard, set apart to the lower right to make it all that much easier to click in a frantic social frenzy.

Surprisingly, the Status will actually run the newest version of Android out of the box — a rare treat for a mid-range Android smartphone selling for a mere $50 with a new 2-year contract. The phone's HTC Sense software will also feature some tweaks that integrate Facebook more deeply into the overall experience, including a dedicated Facebook chat app.

The Status sports 512MB of RAM, a front and back-facing camera and a 2.3" screen for visualizing all of that socializing. The phone formerly known as the HTC Chacha will be joined by a full touchscreen model at some point in the unspecified future. Assuming you're not worried about your Facebook friends making a mass Googly exodus any time soon, the Status could be the hyper-social phone of your dreams.
