Today in TechUndetweetable keeps those embarrassing updates alive even after you’ve deleted them
Remember that harsher-than-it-need-to-be critique of your boss that you meant to send to a co-worker as a direct message on Twitter, but accidentally posted to your entire stream? Sure you do, and after you noticed your unfortunate error you immediately clicked that life-saving delete button. Now it's gone, and your job and reputation are safe, right? Wrong.
Undetweetable is a brand new website that pledges to keep all your deleted tweets around for a long, long time. The premise is simple: Once a user is added to the Undetweetable database, every update he or she erases on Twitter is stored in a searchable index for all to see. Luckily for some — such as former politician Anthony Wiener — Undetweetable can't dig into the past, and only tracks a specific Twitter account after a user has attempted to search for it.
And it seems that there are a lot of dirt diggers out there, because since news of the site's existence hit various social networks, it has seen a massive influx of eager tweeters looking for blackmail material. The site's tagline is "An archive of errors and regrets," and while poking around in not-so-secret history of some of your favorite Twitter users might be good for a laugh to two, it may very well raise a few privacy red flags before too long.
