Verizon launches mobile security app for Android phones

As smartphones become more popular and contain more of our personal information, hackers will inevitably spend more time trying to get to that information. Verizon Wireless understands this and wants to make sure that the security of its customers is a top priority.

To go along with the wireless provider's current network security features, today it announced Verizon Mobile Security, an application that protects Android smartphones against both physical and digital threats.

Current Verizon plan holders have the option of signing up for one of three security packages: Verizon Mobile Security Basic, a free download that includes McAfee virus protection and SiteAdvisor; Verizon Mobile Security Premium, which includes everything in Basic plus a recovery feature and McAfee App Alert for $1.99 a month per line; and Verizon Mobile Security Premium with Total Equipment Coverage that offers all the benefits of Basic and Premium, with the added feature of an extended warranty for $6.99 a month per line. Adding the Total Equipment Coverage also discounts the Premium service to only $1 a month per line.

You can find more information — as well as a handy guide to the new security features — at Verizon's website.
