Self-chilling cans are the ultimate in cool

It's every party host's worst nightmare: how to get drinks cold quickly so your guests can enjoy them immediately. Mitchell Joseph, CEO of West Coast Chill, has solved that problem for you with his new ChillCan technology. His invention is essentially a self-cooling cans that lower the temperature of the beverage by 30 degrees Fahrenheit in just three minutes.

Mitchell's original idea for a self-cooling can relied on a coolant called HFC-134a, which was highly effective but very bad for the environment. The current model uses high-pressure carbon dioxide. When the gas is released, it expands and absorbs heat from the liquid in the can.

West Coast Chill is making an energy drink to sell in the sci-fi cans. It currently retails online for just $4, and is expected to be sold in stores nationally in 2014. Until then, check out some tips for other ways to make sure your party is a hit.
