Top five celebrity reveal-all interviews

Lindsay Lohan’s much-publicized sit down with Oprah finally aired last night. In the interview, 27-year-old Lohan sat down with the legendary TV host to talk about her sixth stint in rehab. The interview, which aired on the Oprah Winfrey network as a primer for an upcoming docuseries following Lohan’s rehab, was a candid encounter in which the “The Canyons” actress laid out her problems with addiction, childhood fame and her infamous stint behind bars.

But Lohan is far from the first celebrity to bare his/her soul in an interview. In honour of last night’s broadcast, we look back on five of the most revealing celebrity interviews:

5. Sarah Palin – "CBS Nightly News" (2008)

Sarah Palin became an international laughing stock after the then vice-presidential candidate floundered in an infamous set of interviews with Katie Couric, in which the Alaskan governor revealed huge gaps in her knowledge of domestic and international politics.

4. Michael Jackson – "Living with Michael Jackson" (2003)

More than 38 million people tuned into ABC’s revealing interview with Michael Jackson. During the program, it emerged that children still slept over at Jackson’s house, despite allegations of abuse that were made against the singer in 1993. A controversial discussion erupted into legal proceedings and public condemnations over how the King of Pop was portrayed.

3. Tom Cruise – "The Today Show" (2005)

Tom Cruise courted controversy in 2005 during an animated interview in which he denounced psychiatry and anti-depression medication. Cruise described psychiatry as a “pseudoscience” before going on to claim that "there is no such thing as a chemical imbalance in a body," prompting outcry from doctors and mental-health campaigners.

2. Lance Armstrong – "Oprah" (2013)

It’s been a big year for Oprah. Alongside last night’s Lohan interview, the queen of talkshows also sat down with disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong earlier this year in an interview so revealing it should probably be R-rated. The former Tour De France champion who was stripped of his seven titles after being embroiled in a doping scandal, came close to tears during the two part program in which he discussed the extent of his cheating during his glittering cycling career.

1. Charlie Sheen – "The Today Show" (2011)

Charlie Sheen raised more than a few eyebrows in 2011 when he claimed during an interview that he was a “warlock” with “tiger blood” and "adonis DNA” who deserved to make $3 million for an episode of “Two and a Half Men.”

"I'm tired of pretending I'm not special," he told NBC's Jeff Rossen during the interview that quickly went viral for all the wrong reasons.
