The World’s Most Advanced Ski Goggles

Flying down the mountain has never been so precise.

Zeal Optics has combined blue tooth technology, GPS tracking and of course their backcountry knowledge to design the most useful goggles we've ever seen, and they're just getting started.

With the Z3 goggle you can monitor your speed, altitude, air temperature and receive phone call and text notices from your Android phone though a small screen in the corner of the goggles. With the integrated GPS you can find yourself and your friends on the mountain, which is perfect when you inevitably separated on a run, especially on mountains with spotty cell service.

But the Z3 is just the beginning. Next year Zeal Optics is releasing the iON goggles, which builds on what they've achieved with the Z3 by adding an HD camera, with a 170-degree wide-angle lens, and an 8 megapixel still camera.

All of the controls for the goggles are managed through a blue tooth enabled remote that you can wear on your wrist like a watch and allows you to easily switch through all the functions.

These goggles aren't cheap, however. A pair of the Z3's will cost you $550. Fortunately the price of the iON's will be less, at $400.

Most of the skiers and snowboards I know go up into the mountains to get away from text messages and social media zombies who walk aimlessly through life looking at a phone.

but some people hit the slopes everyday and our hands get cold from pulling out our phones all the time!

Just read this while on the lift... my hands got cold while getting my phone out... one day I wont have to do that and it will tell me my speed etc. The coolest thing ever! Gotta go, lift is ending.

BMW6581, My thought exactly, How many lives will this take before they realize people just don't need so much stuff to just have Fun!..

I'm not into gadgets while skiing either, but I think this was designed more for use while riding the lift rather than the actual skiing itself. There can be a lot of downtime during an average ski day. Being able to read a text without fumbling with your phone is a pretty smart idea.

Next thing will be this dumb stuff on sunglasses so people can read while they drive.

Will it deploy an airbag when you run into the tree because you're being distracted by the goggles?

Best way to wrap yourself around a tree, skiing downhill while reading a text. Is there a limit to nowadays stupidity?

Is anyone else sick and tired of having to watch a commercial before you can watch a video? IF you watch 2-3 videos you watch as many commercials. I've started not watching any advertising. We really should protest this annoying trend.

GET OUT OF THE WAY!is what i'll be saying to the dumb #$%$ wearing these.

I dont know about you, but when I go snowboarding/skiing, I leave my phone in my truck. Why does society always have to be "connected"?
    • CalCyclist  •  La Quinta, California  •  3 mths ago
And while you were talking on the phone, responding to a text msg, and recording your high speed run to show off to your buds, you accidentally hit a tree while doing 60.

Updating your Facebook page from the tree you just ran into.....priceless

Why don't you just go out and enjoy an afternoon in nature with out feeling the need to ALWAYS be connected to the rest of the world... be in the moment!

Did Tony Stark make the goggles ?

I like to hit the mountain to get away from that same type of #$%$ they want to integrate into these goggles. I ride pretty hard and sometimes the goggles go flying. I'm pretty sure I'd be #$%$ when my goggles that cost about as much as a used Honda take a smack on the ground, fill up with snow etc. I must be getting old because I would never buy something so absurd. I'd ride all day and then wait to be this "fake" social we call facebook and such. If I want to be social I'll gather the confidence to speak to someone in person. Not lurk online and talk with "fake" friends.
