Barack Obama tells America to Twitter spam the GOP

First, President Obama told you to call and email your lawmakers. But Twitter spam?

The president on Friday took the unusual step of asking his nine million-plus Twitter followers to tweet at Republican members of Congress asking them to compromise on raising the debt limit.

"The time for putting party first is over. If you want to see a bipartisan #compromise, let Congress know. Call. Email. Tweet. —BO" the president tweeted.

Obama's account then proceeded to release state-by-state the Twitter handles of every single Republican lawmaker registered with the social networking site.

"Kentucky voters: Tweet @SenRandPaul and ask him to compromise on a balanced deficit solution," was one example.

As of 3:30 p.m. in Washington, the president's account was up to the state of Nebraska.

Some Republicans spun Obama's Twitter campaign in their favor, actually thanking the president for boosting their popularity on a "Follow Friday." "Thanks @BarackObama for pushing @RoyBlunt over 11,000 followers today!" tweeted Amber Marchand, communications director for the Missouri Senator.

It remains to be seen if Americans will follow the Twitter call to the extent they did the president's directive Monday night to phone and email their representatives about the debt ceiling. Americans responded heartily to Obama's previous request, causing some Congressional websites to crash and prompting a deluge of calls to Congressional offices.

If all else fails, there's always Rickrolling.
