Chris Christie’s approval rating hits a new low

Chris Christie may be the subject of 2012 draft movements in Iowa and South Carolina, but the New Jersey governor is facing skepticism on the home front.

A new Quinnipiac Poll finds Christie's once sky-high approval rating has hit a new low with New Jersey voters, who are split over the governor's job performance. The poll finds 47 percent of voters disapprove of the job Christie is doing, while 44 percent approve—his lowest number since he won election in 2009.

Why are Christie's poll numbers down? It appears he's losing the female vote. According to Quinnipiac, women disapprove of Christie 54 percent to 36 percent. Meanwhile, men are the exact opposite, approving of Christie 53 percent to 39 percent.

As Quinnipiac notes, Christie's poll numbers might be grim, but they still aren't as bad as those clocked by some of his fellow GOP governors—including Florida Gov. Rick Scott, whose 57 percent disapproval rating is among the highest the country.

While Christie has repeatedly ruled out a 2012 bid, a majority of New Jersey voters don't want to see him on the ticket at all, with 61 percent saying he'd make a bad vice president.
