GOP primaries in five states, Obama focuses on student loans, day two of Edwards trial, plus more to watch for Tuesday in politics

New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania hold primaries Tuesday. The three biggest questions at this point are: How much closer will Mitt Romney get to the 1,144 delegates he needs to lock up the GOP presidential nomination, what will the turnout be, and will Newt Gingrich have a strong showing in Delaware?

Gingrich hinted in an NBC interview on Monday that he will have to "reassess" his bid if he fares poorly in Delaware, a state where he has spent considerable time campaigning.

Romney will be in New Hampshire on Tuesday evening as the returns come in. He plans to mark the occasion with an event titled "A Better America Begins Tonight." Gingrich will be in North Carolina.

President Barack Obama heads out on a three-state swing to talk about keeping the cost of college loans from going up. The interest rate on a popular federal loan for poorer and middle-class students will double from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent on July 1 without intervention by Congress. Obama will make stops in North Carolina, Colorado and Iowa. Romney agrees that the rate should not increase.

Sticking with the education theme, Obama also will honor American Teachers of the Year on Tuesday morning in a ceremony at the White House.

Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords will be in Washington on Tuesday to receive the EMILY Award, which honors women who have provided leadership to the EMILY's List community. DNC Chair Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz will accompany Giffords to the event.

And then there is this: Andrew Young, John Edwards' former aide, is expected to retake the stand on day two of Edwards' trial.

And these days there is always this: Don't be surprised if there is more fallout from the Secret Service brothel scandal.
