Democrats really like Joe Biden. It's hard to come to any other conclusion after a day of asking them to imagine that they had to choose a non-Joe option to be President Obama's vice president. It's like we had asked them to cut off a limb. We had to change the way we phrased the question to explicitly prohibit people from choosing the man from Delaware.
Unsurprisingly, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also received a lot of verbal votes, which makes sense since she came close to capturing the nomination four years ago. I have come to the unscientific conclusion that women (and many many men) are beyond ready for a woman to be on the ticket, and it's only a matter of (limited) time before that becomes a reality for the winning team.
By far my favorite answer was from the woman who wants Denzel Washington on the ticket. She made it clear to our crew, as we raced through the convention center, that she had opinions to share. Three times we were interrupted while interviewing her, including once to catch Ashley Judd. But every time we returned, she was fired up and ready to share her thoughts. "Why Denzel?" I asked her. She said, "Because I'm a sister, and I like him!"
