    House GOP leaders expected to meet on student loan rates, plus more to watch for Wednesday in politics

    There's a "calm before the storm" mood in Washington in anticipation of the Supreme Court releasing its health care ruling on Thursday and a contempt vote in the House against Attorney General Eric Holder on the same day.

    Speaking of Holder, White House officials and House Republican staff members met Tuesday but failed to reach a deal that would head off the Thursday vote. There could be more last-minute attempts on Wednesday.

    House GOP leaders are expected to meet Wednesday and discuss whether to extend an interest rate cut on federally subsidized student loans. Republican and Democratic leaders in the Senate said Tuesday that they have reached a deal to keep the rate at 3.4 percent instead of allowing it to return to 6.8 percent.

    President Barack Obama has have lunch with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Zayed at the White House and later attends a campaign event a few blocks away at the Jefferson Hotel.

    Mitt Romney will campaign in Virginia, a battleground state, before ending the day with a fundraiser in Washington, D.C., at a private home.

    Also worth noting: Vice President Joe Biden wraps up his two-day campaign swing through the battleground state of Iowa; Caroline Kennedy campaigns in New Hampshire for Obama; and Josh Romney campaigns for his father in Florida.

    And then there is this: President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama host a picnic on the White House South Lawn on Wednesday evening for members of Congress, with President Obama delivering remarks.
