Iowa and New Hampshire, show us your election!

The Ticket

Iowa and New Hampshire residents, you're no strangers to candidate attention during an election year—or even before an election year, thanks to the nation's first presidential caucuses and primaries being held in your states. And the attention hasn't stopped now that they're both in play for the general election.

The rest of us want to know what it's like, and here's your chance to show us! Share your stories and photos with Yahoo News, and we might feature them in a series we're doing about 2012 swing states.

Here's what we're looking for:

1. Share your firsthand observations, stories and anecdotes of what it's like to be in a battleground state. Write between 200 and 400 words, and remember to include colorful details to paint a picture of what it's really like in your state.

Here are some possible topics on which to touch:

-How many political commercials do you see per day? Which ones stick in your mind and why?

-Are you going to candidate rallies?

-How many of your neighbors have Obama-Biden or Romney-Ryan yard signs?

-What's the best political bumper sticker you've seen?

-Do you know who you're voting for? What about your friends and family? Is there political tension in the air due to differing opinions?

-If you haven't decided who to vote for yet, tell us what could change your mind.

2. We're also publishing readers' photos from the campaign trail, so snap away and share those, too! If you're at a campaign event or you've spotted interesting political paraphernalia (think: yard signs, bumper stickers, street art and more), snap a picture and send it to us.

You can submit your content several ways: Email us at (please include your full name and city of residence); join the Yahoo! Contributor Network; tweet your photos to @YahooTicket using the hashtag #SwingStateStories; or join our Election 2012 Flickr group. Please send your content by Thursday, Oct. 11.

By Idrees Ali and Matt Spetalnick WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A U.S. navy destroyer sailed near islands claimed by China in the South China Sea on Friday, drawing a warning from Chinese warships to leave the area. The U.S. action was the latest attempt to counter what Washington sees as Beijing's efforts to limit freedom of navigation in the strategic waters, U.S. officials said. The Chinese Defense Ministry called the move "illegal" and "provocative," saying that two Chinese warships had warned the U.S. destroyer to leave.

    • Trump takes a swipe at Michelle Obama

Donald Trump made First Lady Michelle Obama a public target of his anger for the first time Friday in the final weeks of the presidential race, attacking her for comments she once made about Hillary Clinton. "But wasn't she the one that originally started the statement: If you can't take care of your home ... You can't take care of the White House or the country," Trump said, paraphrasing a memorably harsh remark that Michelle Obama made of Clinton when she ran for the 2008 Democratic nomination against fellow senator Barack Obama.

    • Tiny wooden clog charm resurfaces at Auschwitz

A tiny carved wooden clog that once belonged to a woman the Nazis deported to the Auschwitz death camp has been rediscovered after more than 70 years, a local foundation told AFP on Thursday. Smaller than a matchstick, the charm "is a real piece of art from Auschwitz," said Agnieszka Molenda, who runs the Foundation of Memory Sites near Auschwitz-Birkenau (FPMP). Auschwitz prisoners were banned from making or wearing any such items and according to Molenda the charm could have been a tiny symbol of resistance.

    • U.S. has few good options for response to Philippines' Duterte

By Yeganeh Torbati and David Brunnstrom WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Obama administration has few good options and limited leverage as it struggles to craft a response to Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte's increasingly hostile rhetoric towards the United States and his warm embrace of China. For months, Washington has played down Duterte's anti-American insults and broadsides. Duterte's latest outburst, less than three weeks before the U.S. presidential election, casts further doubt on the seven-decade U.S.-Philippine alliance and threatens to further undermine President Barack Obama's faltering "pivot" to Asia as a counterbalance to China's growing assertiveness.

    • Did it crash or land? Search on for Europe's Mars craft

Europe's second attempt to reach Mars' surface appeared in peril Thursday as initial analysis suggested the latest lander may have plummeted to its demise. While holding out faint hope, ground controllers said it seemed the paddling pool-sized lander's parachute may have been discarded too early, and its fall-breaking thrusters switched off too soon. The lander, dubbed Schiaparelli, was on a test-run for a future rover that will seek out evidence of life, past or present, on the Red Planet.
