Jeb Bush on veep speculation: ‘I would consider the proposal very carefully’ (CORRECTED)

Correction: The Linkiesta article cited in this post claimed to have conducted an exclusive interview with Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, but Bush spokeswoman Jaryn Emhof said the quotes in the piece were pulled from previous interviews.

"Governor Bush hasn't done an interview with them," Emhof told Yahoo News in an email Wednesday. "The reporter pulled from some old U.S. news reports."

Jeb Bush would consider an offer to become Mitt Romney's vice presidential running mate "very carefully," the former Florida governor told Italian news outlet Linkiesta in an interview on Tuesday.

"If Romney were to offer me the job of vice president, I would consider the proposal very carefully," Bush told the online news outlet, according to a Yahoo News translation. "But I don't think he'll pick me."

Bush, the brother and son of former presidents and the governor of Florida from 1999 to 2007, has pushed back against suggestions that Romney will add him to the national ticket. He said in April that Romney should consider Florida Sen. Marco Rubio instead. Later that week, Rubio told CNN that Bush would "a fantastic vice president."

"I hold Mitt in high regard," Bush added in the Italian interview. "And it would be my duty to help him defeat Obama."
