‘Obama Girl’ songwriter: ‘I’ve still got a crush’ (VIDEO)

The singer and songwriter behind "(I Got a) Crush on Obama," the viral-video smash hit from the 2008 campaign, has returned with a new one for 2012—this time without its star.

Amber Lee Ettinger, the model who rocketed to Internet fame following her lip-synch performance as "Obama Girl" in the 2008 video, does not appear in Leah Kauffman's "Still Got a Crush on Obama," released Wednesday. Instead, Kauffman herself stars.

"You didn't get to do the things you wanted to," Kauffman sings in the new video. "But here's your chance."

"This song comes from a place of sincerity," she explained in a separate video. "Obama has created a lot of great changes over the last four years, and I hope he has the chance to influence the next four."

Kauffman added: "Even if you've got a crush on Mitt, don't forget to vote Nov. 6."

Earlier this year, Ettinger—now a full-time student—admitted that her crush has faded. "[I'm] not as excited as I was" in 2008 about Obama, Ettinger told The Daily Caller. "That's for sure."

The original "Obama Girl" video was viewed more than 24 million times on YouTube.

In June, following President Barack Obama's public support of same-sex marriage, an "Obama Girl" parody—"Obama Boy"—was released in tribute.

"Way back in 2008, you just couldn't relate," Justin Brown, the singer in that video, croons over sultry R&B. "Your evolution. You're my solution. I put down my Prop. 8 sign. Now I'm gonna make you mine. Progressive, caring and kind, cuz I got a crush on Obama."
