By The presidential campaign resumes Monday after pausing because of the Aurora, Colo., shooting, although the tone of the politicking is likely to remain tempered for a while.
President Barack Obama, after a stop Sunday in Aurora where he visited the families of those killed, is scheduled to continue on a previously scheduled three-day campaign trip. On Monday, he'll speak at the Veterans of Foreign Wars convention in Reno, Nev., and also attend fundraisers in California.
Obama also will make stops in Oregon and Washington state during the three-day swing, and he will speak at the National Urban League convention in New Orleans. The Oregon visit, however, will not include a rally that had been planned in Portland. Campaign officials said they felt the larger event would be inappropriate in the wake of the shooting, the Associated Press reports.
Mitt Romney, having attended a fundraiser in northern California on Sunday evening where he stayed away from his usual stump speech, has a roundtable discussion with small business leaders scheduled Monday in Costa Mesa and then a fundraiser in Irvine. Romney will speak at the VFW convention Tuesday, and the next day he will begin a trip abroad.
Also worth noting on Monday: Vice President Joe Biden will speak at the National Association of Police Organizations Annual Convention in Palm Beach County, Fla.
