Andrew Cuomo received his highest approval score ever in a Quinnipiac University Polling Institute survey pegged to his response to Superstorm Sandy.

State voters handed New York's Democratic governor a 74 percent approval and 13 percent disapproval rating in the poll, which was conducted Dec. 5-10.

The institute said in a statement that the results released Wednesday represent Cuomo's "highest score ever" and continue "his six-month string of +70 percent ratings."

Eighty-percent of voters surveyed said Cuomo's response to Sandy was "excellent" or "good."

Other lawmakers experienced a post-Sandy bounce in approval, including neighboring New Jersey Republican Gov. Chris Christie.

The margin of error for Wednesday's Quinnipiac poll was plus or minus 2.7 percentage points.
